Scotland suffered a 12-run defeat to Oman in a rain-affected, reduced-overs match during their ongoing World Cup League 2 campaign in Namibia. This marks Scotland's first match since their late inclusion in the T20 World Cup in February.

The initial encounter between Scotland and Oman, scheduled for Thursday, was abandoned without a ball being bowled due to damp conditions. Additionally, Monday's match against the host nation Namibia commenced but was subsequently curtailed by rain.

Persistent adverse weather in Windhoek forced the match to be shortened from the planned 50 overs to 20 overs per side. Oman capitalized on the conditions with an aggressive start, reaching 100 runs without loss at the halfway point. This strong opening partnership was anchored by captain Jatinder Singh, who scored 51 runs, and Ashish Odedara, who contributed 43 runs.

Following the dismissals of the openers in the 11th and 12th overs, Oman experienced a period of regular wickets falling. Sayfaan Sharif played a pivotal role in shifting momentum by claiming two wickets in the 15th over, both batsmen dismissed without scoring, reducing the total to 127-5.

Michael Leask and Jack Jarvis each took two wickets, further restricting Oman’s innings. Despite this, Shakeel Ahmed provided late impetus, striking a six and a four off Sharif in the final over. Oman concluded their innings at 163 for 7 wickets.

In response, Scotland lost key early wickets with experienced opener George Munsey dismissed in the second over, followed immediately by Finlay McCreath. Brandon McMullen responded with an aggressive start, hitting his second ball for four and then two consecutive sixes. However, he was soon dismissed for 22 runs, as was captain Richie Berrington, who added just one more run.

Wicketkeeper Matthew Cross was Scotland’s highest scorer with 24 runs. However, the team’s chances diminished after losing wickets cheaply in both the 18th and 19th overs, scoring only three runs in each. Scotland managed 17 runs in the final over to finish at 151 for 9 wickets, falling short by 12 runs.

Despite the loss, Scotland remain second in the League 2 table but have played three more matches than leaders USA, who hold a four-point advantage. Oman have moved up to third place, trailing Scotland by three points but with four matches in hand.

Looking ahead, Oman will aim to secure a second victory over Namibia on Friday. The tri-series will conclude with a match between Scotland and Namibia on Sunday.
