Glamorgan Captain Carlson Commits Until 2028
Glamorgan captain Kiran Carlson has agreed to a two-year contract extension, securing his position with the club until at least the conclusion of the 2028 season. The 28-year-old, who has been with Glamorgan for over a decade, continues to be a pivotal figure for the Welsh county.
Carlson, a Cardiff native, progressed through the Glamorgan development pathway. In 2016, during only his third first-class match, he became the youngest player to score a first-class century for Glamorgan, achieving this milestone at 18 years and 119 days old.
His introduction to County cricket was notable not only for his batting but also for his bowling, having taken 5 wickets for 28 runs with his off-spin against Northamptonshire on debut a few weeks earlier.
"Extremely happy to have signed another contract with the club, as a Cardiff lad it's a great honour to represent Glamorgan and Wales," Carlson said.
"The club are in a really exciting period and as captain I can't wait to see how far we can get to as a club in all formats. There isn't another club I'd want to play for more than here."
Career Challenges and Leadership
Carlson's career with Glamorgan has experienced ups and downs, including a dip in form during the 2019 and 2020 seasons. However, he rebounded strongly in 2021, leading Glamorgan to victory in the One-Day Cup, which was the club's first trophy since 2004.
Following the departure of Sam Northeast, Carlson was appointed captain of the four-day side for the 2023 season, marking Glamorgan's return to Division One after 21 years. He has continued to demonstrate leadership and performance on the field.
This season, Carlson achieved a career-best score of 209 runs against Hampshire. Glamorgan have made a strong start in the Championship, currently sitting third in the table after six matches, with two wins and three draws.
Club's Perspective
Mark Wallace, Glamorgan's director of cricket, emphasized Carlson's importance to the club's future plans.
"Kiran is central to our long‑term vision, both as a player and as a leader. His commitment, professionalism, and passion for Glamorgan are evident every day, and securing his future is a significant moment for the club.
We're thrilled he will continue to play a major role in shaping the next phase of our journey."
