Kirstie Gordon Set for Scotland Return After Nearly Nine Years
Former England spinner Kirstie Gordon is poised to make her first appearance for Scotland in almost nine years, having been named in the squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup.
Gordon, aged 28, has previously represented Scotland 60 times before transitioning to a full-time career within the English professional cricket system.
Born in Huntly, Aberdeenshire, Gordon participated in five matches during the 2018 Women's T20 World Cup, where England finished as runners-up. She also played a Test match against Australia in 2019.
Last December, Gordon committed her future to Scotland, although she has only recently recovered from a back injury.
Squad Changes and Leadership
Scotland's squad, captained by Kathryn Bryce, features three changes from the team that competed in the World Cup qualifier in Nepal earlier this year.
Young seam bowlers Gabriella Fontenla and Maisie Maceira have been included alongside Gordon. Meanwhile, Niamh Robertson-Jack, Mollie Parker, and Hannah Rainey—who left the squad in Nepal due to injury—are not part of the current selection.
Robertson-Jack and Ellen Watson will join a wider squad for a pre-tournament tri-series against the Netherlands and Bangladesh. Following this, Scotland will travel to Manchester for their opening World Cup match against Ireland at Old Trafford on 13 June.
Scotland's Group B opponents include England, West Indies, New Zealand, and Sri Lanka.
Gordon's Commitment and Preparations
Kirstie Gordon's return is seen as a significant boost to the Scottish side, bringing top-class experience to the squad.
Scotland will host a T20 tri-series before the World Cup, providing valuable match practice ahead of the tournament.
