Abhishek Sharma's Record-Breaking Innings Powers Sunrisers Hyderabad
Abhishek Sharma, a member of India's T20 World Cup-winning squad earlier this year, delivered a remarkable performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as Sunrisers Hyderabad defeated Delhi Capitals by 47 runs.
Sunrisers Hyderabad posted a formidable total of 242-2 in their 20 overs, with Abhishek unbeaten on 135 from 68 balls. The 25-year-old left-handed opener, currently ranked number one in the men's T20 batting rankings, dominated the innings with a blend of power and precision.
Abhishek's innings featured 10 sixes and 10 fours, including a series of powerful straight drives. He reached his century milestone in just 47 deliveries, showcasing his aggressive yet controlled approach at the crease.
This score ranks as the fifth-highest individual total in IPL history, surpassed only by Chris Gayle's 175 not out, Brendon McCullum's 158 not out, Abhishek's own 141 on the same ground last year, and Quinton de Kock's 140 against Kolkata Knight Riders in 2022.

"I always wanted to show my talent in the powerplay but you have to have the backing from the captain and the coach," Abhishek said. "The environment we had in '24 was the game-changer for us. I always wanted to play like this, in my Punjab team as well."

Three of his four T20 hundreds have come at Sunrisers' home ground in Hyderabad, a venue known for high-scoring matches, including two of the four highest IPL totals.
In the match against Delhi Capitals, Abhishek shared significant partnerships: 97 runs in 8.5 overs with Travis Head, 79 runs in 35 balls with Ishan Kishan, and an unbeaten 66 runs in 32 balls with South African Heinrich Klaasen.
Klaasen contributed aggressively with three sixes in his 37 not out from 13 balls, while Head and Kishan added 37 and 25 runs respectively.
"When we went to the wicket it was a bit slow," Abhishek remarked. "We had the match-ups in our mind and wanted to utilize the powerplay as I always do. It is always a special moment scoring on this special ground."
Impact on the IPL Standings
This victory marked Sunrisers Hyderabad's third consecutive win, elevating them to third place in the IPL points table, just three points behind the leaders Punjab Kings.
