A woman in her 50s received hospital treatment for injuries sustained when she was struck by a white Ford Transit van in a hit-and-run collision that also involved a second vehicle, police have confirmed.
The incident occurred at approximately 18:30 BST on Saturday in the Queens Quay area of Londonderry. Officers stated that the woman's injuries are "not believed to be serious at this time".
Several hours later, at around 22:10 BST on the same evening, police received notification that a van had been discovered burnt out in the Sheriff's Road area of Derry. Investigators believe this vehicle "was involved in the earlier hit-and-run collision".
This incident follows a pattern of hit-and-run collisions across Northern Ireland in recent months. A five-year-old girl died after being struck by a van in Newry on 22 June 2026, while a woman in her 50s was fatally struck by a car on Drumrane Road in Limavady on 17 August 2026. Additionally, a 28-year-old man was left in critical condition after being hit by a black Toyota Yaris in Dromore on 28 June 2026.
Appeal for witnesses
Police are requesting assistance from members of the public who may have relevant information about the Saturday collision. Anyone with dash-cam footage, mobile phone video, or other evidence that could support the investigation is urged to come forward and contact the police.
