Serious Collision on M80 Leaves Teenager Critically Injured

An 18-year-old female passenger has been hospitalized with life-threatening injuries following a serious traffic collision on the M80 motorway in North Lanarkshire.

The incident occurred around 19:00 on Sunday near Moodiesburn, involving a silver Volkswagen Golf and a black Mercedes A200. The Volkswagen Golf left the road after colliding with the Mercedes.

Police confirmed that the teenager's condition is life-threatening. The 20-year-old male driver of the Volkswagen Golf was also taken to hospital for treatment; however, his injuries are not considered life-threatening. Occupants of the Mercedes were unharmed.

The northbound carriageway of the M80 was closed for approximately three hours while police conducted investigations at the scene.

Ongoing Investigation and Appeal for Witnesses

Sergeant Andrew Coutts provided a statement regarding the investigation:

"Our inquiries to establish the full circumstances are ongoing and I would urge anyone who may be able to help to get in touch, external.
We would be keen to speak to anyone who may have dash cam footage from the area around the time of the collision as well."
