A seven-year-old boy remains in critical but stable condition at hospital following a road traffic collision in Coleraine on Sunday evening.
The child was riding his bicycle when it collided with a black Volkswagen Scirocco in the Warnocks Lane area at approximately 18:40. Emergency responders attended the scene promptly, and the boy was transported to hospital for treatment.
Such incidents involving children and vehicles have become a recurring concern across the UK. A two-year-old was seriously injured when a car crashed into a nursery playground in Ellesmere Port in June 2026, while a four-year-old boy died following a collision in Newark in August 2026.
Investigation underway
Warnocks Lane was temporarily closed in both directions following the collision but has since reopened to traffic. Police are continuing their enquiries to determine the full circumstances of the incident and have appealed for witnesses or anyone with relevant information to contact them.
