Incident Overview

A railway worker was fatally struck by a train while addressing a sinkhole issue on Sunday evening in the Radlett area of Hertfordshire. The train involved was traveling from Sheffield to London St Pancras.

All railway lines were blocked as emergency services responded to the incident. The Network Rail worker was pronounced dead at 21:43 GMT.

Investigation and Response

British Transport Police (BTP) stated they are "working to establish the full circumstances leading up to his death." It is understood that the worker was a controller of site safety and was attempting to implement speed restrictions related to a sinkhole at Elstree & Borehamwood railway station, which is the next stop towards London after Radlett.

According to BTP, officers were dispatched to the line near Radlett at approximately 21:05 following "reports of a casualty on the tracks."

Statements from Network Rail

A spokesperson for Network Rail confirmed the death of one of their team members and expressed condolences, stating the company's "thoughts are with their family and colleagues at this extremely difficult time."

"We're supporting everyone affected and are working closely with the BTP to understand the full circumstances of what happened,"

they added.
