Investigation into Unauthorised Work on Protected Land
Unauthorised construction activities have been reported at a field located within an area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB), prompting an investigation by the local council.
Heavy machinery, including diggers and bulldozers, are currently operating on the field off Friendless Lane near Flamstead. This site is situated within the Hertfordshire green belt and the Chiltern Hills, both designated for their environmental and scenic importance.
The Member of Parliament representing the area has expressed concern over the work, stating it is causing significant distress among local residents.
Dacorum Borough Council has confirmed that the construction activity lacks proper authorisation and has advised the public not to approach the site. Attempts to identify the landowner have so far been unsuccessful.
"The council is taking this matter seriously and has notified the police,"said a council spokesperson.
"Our planning enforcement team will investigate, gather evidence and take the necessary action.
We know residents will want action as swiftly as possible, but we must follow the required legal process in these circumstances."

Local Community Reaction
Billy Pither, chairman of Flamstead Parish Council, described the unauthorised activity within the Chilterns AONB as shocking to local residents.
"Flamstead is a very beautiful little village surrounded by green fields - that's part of its beauty. People live here because it's peaceful,"he said.
"People are pretty cut up and shocked and disappointed. It's a big, big worry."
A resident of Flamstead, who wished to remain anonymous, reported to the BBC that multiple lorries have been making deliveries to the site since 18:00 BST on Thursday, with underground pipes being installed.

Political Response and Police Involvement
Vitoria Collins, the Liberal Democrat MP for Harpenden and Berkhamsted, commented on the situation, highlighting the impact on the community.
"The reported work in Flamstead is causing great distress to the local community... any unauthorised construction work must face the full force of the law."
Hertfordshire Police have been contacted for comment regarding the ongoing investigation.
