A bomb disposal unit was deployed to Lerwick Town Hall in Shetland after an individual presented what officials described as a "possible ordnance device" intended for a forthcoming exhibition.
The item surfaced at approximately 18:00 on Friday evening, prompting authorities to establish cordons around nearby roads as a precautionary measure.
According to a statement from Shetland Islands Council, the local authority had accepted a collection of First World War artefacts designated for public display.
Among them was a possible ordnance device, so the police were informed.
The discovery triggered a response from specialist disposal personnel who attended the venue to assess the object. A police spokesperson confirmed that investigations into the matter remained active, though no further details were immediately disclosed regarding the nature of the device or the circumstances surrounding its donation.
