Authorities searching for a 45-year-old tourist who disappeared while hillwalking on the Isle of Skye have located a body in the Cuillin area.
Hector Patemore, a visitor from the Belgian city of Ghent, was last observed at approximately 10:45 on Sunday morning as he departed Glenbrittle Youth Hostel to begin his walking expedition. The body was discovered at around 14:00 the same day.
Identification and investigation
A Police Scotland representative confirmed that formal identification procedures have not yet been completed, though the missing man's family members have been notified of the discovery. The circumstances surrounding the death are not considered suspicious at this stage. Following standard procedure, police will prepare a report for submission to the procurator fiscal, the Scottish official responsible for investigating deaths and determining whether criminal proceedings are warranted.
Search operation
The discovery concluded the search effort that had been underway following Patemore's disappearance. The Cuillin mountain range, where the body was found, is a popular but challenging destination for hillwalkers visiting Skye, known for its rugged terrain and unpredictable weather conditions that can pose significant risks to visitors unfamiliar with the landscape.
