Welsh actor Taron Egerton has revealed he has not spoken to his father in years, describing how he deliberately ended contact after their relationship became increasingly strained. The 36-year-old, best known for his breakout role in the Kingsman franchise, made the disclosure during an appearance on the American podcast Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard. He said he still loves his father but chose to step away from the relationship entirely, adding that he has not seen him since.
According to a report on the interview, Egerton told the podcast that the pair had managed a workable relationship during his childhood, but that things grew more difficult once he reached adulthood.
My father and I, when I was growing up, were able to maintain a fairly kind of functional relationship. As I got older, that became more difficult and I haven't spoken to him for a number of years now.
Egerton said he had initially been hesitant to discuss the situation in depth out of respect for his father's privacy, but he was clear that his feelings toward him remain affectionate despite the distance between them.
I do love him. I just don't think we work very well in terms of our relationship. So, there was a point where I pushed the ejector seat and haven't seen him since.

Egerton explained that he has found greater peace by choosing to believe the people in his life, including his father, were generally doing their best. The same report notes that he specifically credited his father with wanting to be a good parent, even if the relationship ultimately did not work.

He also recalled struggling during his first year of secondary school, where he faced bullying from two pupils, before the move to Aberystwyth helped him find a group of close friends. He was keen to stress that, despite these difficulties, his overall upbringing was a loving one and he did not want to present himself as a victim.
