Welcome to live coverage of The Celebrity Traitors episode five, a pivotal instalment that marks the exact midpoint of the series. At this stage, statistically something genuinely compelling ought to unfold. The season has felt somewhat restrained and lacking momentum so far, but whispers from behind the scenes suggest a turning point may be imminent.

Rumours have circulated that production encountered significant difficulties during filming. Reports indicate that the situation became so intense that recording had to pause at one point, with some contestants struggling emotionally with events that unfolded. Word from those close to the production suggests the atmosphere on set grew genuinely toxic at times. The structural integrity of the show itself may have been altered by whatever occurred. These hints have built considerable anticipation for what tonight might deliver.

The episode begins at 8pm. Until then, here is the current state of play.

Who are the Traitors?

Three celebrities have been selected as Traitors and are working together to eliminate the Faithfuls:

Maya Jama – TRAITOR. She has demonstrated ruthless gameplay throughout, and her strategic thinking genuinely unsettles observers. Her composure under pressure marks her as the most formidable Traitor in the game.

James Acaster – TRAITOR. His conviction in the role has wavered noticeably as the series has progressed. It is increasingly apparent that he harbours genuine reluctance about his position. His discomfort shows, and his attempts at deception have become less persuasive.

Professor Hannah Fry – TRAITOR. Like Acaster, she displays visible strain in maintaining her cover. She would evidently prefer to return to Faithful status, but the game's rules do not permit such a reversal.

Who are the Faithfuls?

Ross Kemp – FAITHFUL. He remains a target for elimination and is currently concealed in a crypt as the Traitors approach.

Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan – FAITHFUL. Both are vulnerable to murder tonight and are hiding in crypts. For the first time in the competition, they finally have meaningful roles to play in the evening's events.

Leigh-Anne Pinnock – FAITHFUL. She occupies a crypt, but hers has been locked because her name does not begin with the letter R. If the Traitors attempt to open her crypt, no murder will occur. She is technically in danger but protected by this mechanical safeguard.

Michael Sheen – FAITHFUL. James Acaster has been attempting, without clear justification, to frame him as a Traitor to the other Faithfuls.

Miranda Hart – FAITHFUL. She is pursuing Professor Hannah Fry with considerably more intensity than most other contestants, driven by suspicion that rivals the determination of a narrow demographic of recently divorced men who frequent upmarket supermarkets.

Joe Lycett – FAITHFUL. Despite his genuine status, suspicion has fallen upon him repeatedly, though no solid evidence supports these accusations.

Sebastian Croft – FAITHFUL. A pleasant competitor who frequently layers multiple jumpers simultaneously, reminiscent of the character Joey from the television series Friends.

Sharon Rooney – FAITHFUL. She remains the favourite among remaining contestants. Historical patterns suggest this status may result in her swift elimination.

Joanne McNally and Jerry Hall – FAITHFUL. These two have demonstrated a consistent inability to accurately read situations or make correct strategic decisions. They shall be referred to as The Wrong Twins unless one of them demonstrates otherwise.

James Blunt – FAITHFUL. A courteous participant whose wardrobe evokes the aesthetic of the cast from the 1980s comedy series Hi-De-Hi.

King Kenny – FAITHFUL. He has contributed so little of note that his presence on the programme raises questions about whether he was cast as part of a witness protection arrangement.

What happened in the previous episode?

The previous episode concluded with the Traitors selecting four Faithfuls for a face-to-face murder twist. Rob Beckett, Romesh Ranganathan, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Ross Kemp were chosen for the crypt challenge, with Leigh-Anne holding a key that would prevent her own murder if the Traitors attempted to eliminate her. This twist introduced a new dynamic to the elimination process, replacing the standard voting mechanism with a hide-and-seek element that required the Traitors to physically locate their targets.

The series has built steadily toward this point. In episode four, Bella Ramsey was murdered by the Traitors, followed by Julie Hesmondhalgh's banishment after an intense roundtable discussion. That episode introduced a deadly hide-and-seek game that set the template for tonight's events. Episode three had promised either a dramatic turning point or confirmation that early strategic moves had already determined the series' trajectory, and the subsequent episodes have delivered escalating tension.

What to expect tonight

The Traitors will navigate through woodland toward a series of crypts. Inside these crypts, four Faithfuls await. The Traitors must decide which crypts to open. Opening a crypt containing a Faithful results in that person's murder. However, Leigh-Anne's crypt is locked, meaning any attempt to open it will fail and result in no elimination.

The strategic question facing the Traitors is whether to target Rob Beckett or Romesh Ranganathan, or whether to risk attempting Leigh-Anne's locked crypt in hopes of eliminating Ross Kemp instead. Ross Kemp's continued survival has begun to attract suspicion among the Faithfuls, making him a logical target from the Traitors' perspective.

James Acaster has been attempting to frame Michael Sheen as a potential Traitor, though his reasoning remains unclear and unconvincing. This misdirection may or may not succeed in swaying opinion during the roundtable discussion that follows the murder.

What happens next

Episode six is scheduled for broadcast on Friday, 16 October 2026, at 8pm. By that point, tonight's murder will have been revealed, and the Faithfuls will have voted to banish one of their number, further reducing the pool of competitors.

The series continues to build toward whatever dramatic event the behind-the-scenes reports have hinted at. Whether that event occurs tonight or in a subsequent episode remains unclear, but the mounting tension suggests a significant turning point approaches.
