US President Donald Trump announced on Tuesday that he has secured an agreement with Russian President Vladimir Putin to permit Moscow to "immediately release" diesel supplies into the global market.

According to Trump's statement, Putin has consented to discharge 300,000 tonnes of diesel at once, with an additional 500,000 tonnes scheduled for November and a further million tonnes thereafter.

"Diesel Prices for Americans and, indeed, the World, will be COMING DOWN, IN RECORD NUMBERS, AND FAST!"
Trump declared on Truth Social, expressing confidence in the market impact of the arrangement.

The announcement comes amid significant pressure on the Trump administration and Republican lawmakers regarding fuel costs. Diesel prices across the United States have risen sharply since military conflict with Iran escalated in February, creating economic headwinds that have become a focal point in political discussions ahead of the midterm elections. The surge in energy costs has intensified concerns about inflation and the overall cost of living for American households and businesses.

Within hours of Trump's public announcement, the US Treasury Department took formal action to support the agreement. Officials issued a temporary license that explicitly permits Russian diesel to enter the American market, providing the regulatory framework necessary to facilitate the transaction and allow the fuel shipments to proceed.

The timing of the announcement and the swift Treasury response underscore the administration's priority in addressing energy prices before the midterm elections, when voter concerns about economic conditions typically influence electoral outcomes.
