Williams' Doubles Campaign Ends at Queen's Following Mboko Injury

Serena Williams' participation in the doubles event at Queen's has been cut short after her partner Victoria Mboko withdrew due to a left knee injury.

The 44-year-old, 23-time Grand Slam singles champion, returned to professional tennis on Tuesday after nearly four years away from the sport.

Williams and Mboko were scheduled to compete in their quarter-final match on Thursday. However, the 19-year-old Canadian sustained a severe injury during her singles match on Wednesday, which led to her retirement from that match.

While trailing 6-2, 3-4 against Karolina Pliskova, Mboko fell and immediately expressed pain, clutching her knee. She subsequently left the court limping and in tears.

As a result, their opponents in the doubles quarter-final, Leylah Fernandez from Canada and Germany's Laura Siegemund, have advanced to the semi-finals.
