Warrington Triumph Over Wigan to Maintain Pressure on Leeds
Warrington Wolves secured a victory against Wigan Warriors, keeping pace with Super League leaders Leeds Rhinos. This win extends Warrington's perfect home record in the 2026 season and marks Wigan's fourth consecutive league defeat.
Earlier this week, Warrington's winger Josh Thewlis committed his future to the club by signing a new contract lasting until the end of the 2030 season. In his first appearance since signing, Thewlis scored two tries, matching the tally of centre Albert Hopoate, who also crossed the line twice. Additionally, Sneyd contributed three goals and a drop-goal to Warrington's total.
Despite a remarkable try from Wigan winger Zach Eckersley, his tenth of the Super League season, which brought the visitors closer at 12-6, Wigan could not overcome their ongoing league struggles. The Warriors had previously won a Challenge Cup quarter-final against Wakefield earlier in the month but have not recorded a league victory since 19 March. They currently trail Leeds by four points.
Warrington, coached by Sam Burgess, now sit second in the table, just two points behind Leeds, having played one game fewer.
Captain George Williams to Undergo Surgery
Warrington's captain George Williams was absent due to injury and confirmed during the match that he will undergo surgery for a neck problem, which is expected to sideline him for a significant part of the season.
