Wakefield Trinity Secure Convincing Victory Over Castleford Tigers
Cameron Scott opened the scoring for Wakefield Trinity as they delivered a commanding 48-6 victory against Castleford Tigers during the Betfred Super League Magic Weekend at Hill Dickinson Stadium.
Wakefield crossed the try line nine times in total, with Scott, Tom Johnstone, and Caleb Hamlin-Uele each scoring twice. Additional tries came from Lachlan Walmsley, Tyson Smoothy, and Josh Rourke. Jack Sinfield successfully converted six goals, contributing to the comprehensive win.
This result elevates Daryl Powell's Wakefield side to third place in the Super League standings, accumulating 24 points after securing six wins in their last seven matches.
Match Summary
Castleford Tigers struggled significantly throughout the game, allowing Wakefield to capitalize fully. The visitors took an early lead when Walmsley caught a kick from Jake Trueman and assisted Scott, who scored in the right corner in the third minute.
Wakefield dominated possession and territory, with two tries initially disallowed before Johnstone successfully crossed in the 16th minute. Hamlin-Uele, coming off the bench, powered through two defenders to score near the posts, marking Wakefield's third try.
The Tigers' defensive frailties were evident, as they missed 44 tackles and committed numerous errors, enabling Wakefield to extend their lead. Scott scored his second try after receiving a pass from Jack Sinfield and breaking inside the defense, pushing the score to 20-0.
Walmsley celebrated his acrobatic try in the 47th minute with a playful gesture, pulling an Uno card from his sock after scoring in the right corner to make it 24-0. Forward Tyson Smoothy continued the scoring spree by breaking through the Castleford defense to score by the posts at 51 minutes.
Hamlin-Uele added his second try with a straightforward effort, walking through two defenders to score. Johnstone secured his second try on 65 minutes following a well-executed backline move from a scrum. Ten minutes later, Rourke caught a kick from Sinfield and crashed over for Wakefield's ninth try.
Castleford's Jason Qareqare scored a late consolation try a minute from time, marking his tenth try in seven games, but it did little to alter the outcome.
