Sam Costelow to Miss Remainder of Scarlets Season
Fly-half Sam Costelow will be sidelined for the rest of the Scarlets' season due to ankle surgery. The 25-year-old now faces a challenge to regain fitness in time for Wales' Nations Championship campaign scheduled for July.
Costelow sustained the injury during Wales' Six Nations match against Scotland in Cardiff in February, which led to him missing the final two fixtures of the tournament. He had been recalled to start against Scotland and delivered an impressive performance in the narrow defeat before being forced off due to injury. Subsequently, Ospreys' outside-half Dan Edwards took over for the remainder of the competition.
Impact on Scarlets and Wales Summer Programme
As a result of the injury, Costelow will be absent for the final four games of the Scarlets' United Rugby Championship (URC) season, which concludes in mid-May.
Looking ahead, Costelow faces a race to be fit for Wales' summer schedule, which begins with an uncapped international against the Barbarians at Twickenham on 27 June. This match will be followed by the Nations Championship opener against Fiji at Cardiff City Stadium on Saturday, 4 July.
Wales will then travel to face Argentina in San Juan on 11 July and South Africa in Durban seven days later.
Additional Injury Concerns
Wales hooker Dewi Lake is also set to miss the remainder of the season and is considered doubtful for the upcoming international summer campaign.
