France achieved a bonus-point victory over a determined Italy side in Lille, sustaining their pursuit of a Six Nations Grand Slam and consecutive championship titles.

Les Bleus quickly established a 19-0 lead with tries from Louis Bielle-Biarrey, Emmanuel Meafou, and Thomas Ramos, who was a late replacement at fly-half following Matthieu Jalibert's withdrawal from the match.

Despite France's early scoreboard dominance, Italy remained competitive, responding with a try by Ange Capuozzo and a penalty from Paolo Garbisi.

With Louis Lynagh temporarily sidelined due to a sin-bin, debutant Gael Drean secured the crucial bonus-point try, and Emilien Gailleton added a try in a quieter second half.

Historically, Italy has only defeated France twice in the Six Nations, with the 2024 encounter in Lille concluding in an exhilarating draw.

France, who suffered just one loss in last year's championship, will next travel to Edinburgh to face Scotland on Saturday, 7 March, while Italy will host England on the same day.

Given the strength of coach Fabien Galthie's squad on home soil, where they will face England in their final fixture, the upcoming match could be pivotal in determining their Grand Slam ambitions.

Consecutive heavy defeats for Steve Borthwick's England side may bolster Italy's confidence as they aim for a first-ever victory over England.

Gonzalo Quesada's Italian team defeated Scotland in the opening round but struggled to maintain momentum in the second half against France.
