Saracens Dominate Sale Sharks with 13-Try Victory

Noah Caluori scored five of Saracens' 13 tries as they delivered a commanding 85-19 win over Sale Sharks at the CorpAcq Stadium, significantly boosting their Premiership play-off prospects.

The try scorers for Sale were Tom O'Flaherty, who scored twice, and Asher Opoku-Fordjour, with Ford converting two of their tries. Saracens' tries came from Rotimi Segun, Noah Caluori (5), Tom Willis, Rhys Carre, Fergus Burke, Charlie Bracken, Nathan Michelow, Max Malins, and Ben Earl, with Burke converting eight and Farrell two.

Caluori's Five-Try Performance

Caluori matched his previous five-try haul against Sale from their October meeting, extending his lead as the Premiership's top try-scorer by seven. Sale's defense was notably weaker than in previous encounters, conceding six tries in the first half alone to Segun, Willis, Carre, Burke, and two from Caluori, as Saracens controlled the game comprehensively.

Sale managed to get on the scoreboard after halftime through O'Flaherty and Opoku-Fordjour, but Saracens responded with further tries from Caluori, Bracken, Michelow, Malins, and Earl, resulting in Sale's largest-ever league defeat.

Match Progression and Key Moments

With Sale out of play-off contention, Saracens needed a decisive victory to remain in the hunt for a top-four finish, trailing Exeter Chiefs by 14 points at the start of the day. Their intent was evident from the kickoff.

Early in the match, Segun received a pass from Olly Hartley and evaded tackles from Gus Warr and Rob du Preez to score. Sale's defensive vulnerabilities were further exposed when Malins broke through their line, allowing the ball to be passed to Caluori, who scored his first try.

Mark McCall's side capitalized on their momentum, with Willis breaking through a tackle to score following sustained pressure in Sale's 22. Sale struggled at the breakdown, particularly in the absence of the Curry brothers and Dan du Preez, which Saracens exploited effectively.

Fergus Burke added a fifth try by evading a tackle, kicking ahead, and regathering near the posts. As the first half drew to a close, Saracens continued to score, with Malins assisting Caluori to score again on the wing, leaving Sale's defense in disarray and their coach Alex Sanderson with much to consider at halftime.

After the break, Sale sought to restore pride. Quick ball movement between Ernst van Rhyn and Ethan Caine set up O'Flaherty, who broke through three defenders to score.

However, Saracens quickly reasserted control. Bracken scored a seventh try before Caluori intercepted a pass from du Preez in midfield to complete his hat-trick. He then added two more tries in the corners as Sale's missed tackles reached 40.

With Sale's defense ineffective, Michelow scored as Saracens surpassed 70 points. Malins followed with the 12th try after O'Flaherty dropped the ball in his own 22. Ben Earl added another try, with Sale scoring two consolation tries from O'Flaherty and Opoku-Fordjour to conclude the match.

Implications and Standings

The result places Saracens sixth in the Premiership, five points behind Bristol in fifth, while Sale remain seventh with slim chances of climbing the table.
