Yamashita Denies Woad Third LPGA Title

Lottie Woad was denied her third LPGA title as Miyu Yamashita fired an impressive final-round 64 at the Meijer LPGA Classic, securing victory on the first play-off hole. The tournament took place at Blythefield Country Club in Belmont, Michigan.

Woad, who had won her second LPGA event just last month, began the final round trailing overnight leader Jing Yan by one stroke. She carded a four-under 68 on Sunday, including a remarkable shot holing out for birdie from the sand at the par-four 17th hole. This birdie moved Woad to 18 under par, putting her one stroke clear heading into the final hole.

However, Woad narrowly missed a four-foot putt for victory on the 18th hole, which lipped out, resulting in a bogey and forcing a play-off with Yamashita.

Yamashita started the day five strokes behind the leader but surged forward by birdying five of her first seven holes. She finished the round level with Woad at 17 under par.

The play-off was contested on the par-five 18th hole. Yamashita, aged 24 and last year's Women's Open champion, positioned her third shot closer to the pin than Woad. She then successfully rolled in a birdie putt to claim her third LPGA title. Yamashita is currently ranked eighth in the world, while Woad is ranked seventh.
