Welcome to Live Coverage of the 2026 Chinese Grand Prix Qualifying

Greetings to all, this is Joey Lynch bringing you live updates from on the 2026 Formula One World Championship as it continues today with qualifying at the Chinese Grand Prix in Shanghai.

Following last week’s impressive one-two finish in Melbourne, Mercedes have demonstrated their strength once again in the Magic City, with championship leader George Russell leading the charge. However, Russell faced considerable challenge from the Ferrari drivers Lewis Hamilton and Charles Leclerc.

Despite this, no team has yet shown the capability to match Mercedes under the new regulations, except possibly Ferrari at the start of the race. Russell and his teammate Kimi Antonelli remain the favorites heading into qualifying.

The key questions remain: will Mercedes maintain their dominance, or can Ferrari disrupt their momentum? Can McLaren improve their pace? And will Max Verstappen find reasons to smile again? These answers will begin to emerge as qualifying unfolds.

Qualifying in Shanghai is scheduled to start at 3pm local time, 6pm AEDT, and 7am GMT.
