Forwards James Wilson and Findlay Curtis have withdrawn from Scotland's senior squad to feature for the Under-21 team in their match against Azerbaijan on Wednesday.
Wilson, a striker at Hearts, and Curtis, a winger at Rangers, had been part of the 27-player group training in Spain under new head coach Sebastien Pocognoli. Their departure means they will not be available for the Nations League contests away to Slovenia and the home encounter with Switzerland, scheduled for Saturday and Tuesday respectively.
Both players remain in contention for selection when Scotland travel to North Macedonia on 3 October, followed by a home fixture against Slovenia three days later. The Under-21 side will face Bulgaria on the same date as the latter senior match.
Wilson's rapid rise in international football
Wilson has established himself as a key contributor for Hearts this season, having netted five goals. His Scotland career began remarkably early: he became the nation's youngest men's international when he earned his first cap as a substitute in the match against Greece in March 2025, at just 18 years and 17 days old. He has since earned a second cap for the senior team.
Curtis's World Cup experience
Curtis brings significant experience despite his youth, having made five appearances for Scotland's senior side. He holds the distinction of being Scotland's youngest World Cup player after appearing in late stages of matches against Haiti and Brazil during the tournament in the United States earlier this summer.
