Durán Set for Celtic Medical
Qarabag forward Camilo Durán is on the verge of undergoing a medical to become Celtic's first signing of the summer, according to manager Martin O'Neill.
The 24-year-old Colombian joined Qarabag, the Azerbaijan Premier League runners-up, less than a year ago after transferring from Portuguese club Portimonense for an undisclosed fee.
Durán gained attention by scoring five goals in 10 Champions League appearances last season, helping Qarabag finish 22nd in the competition.
Speaking ahead of Celtic's first public pre-season friendly against Shelbourne in Dublin, O'Neill told Celtic TV:
"We've got the young lad Duran - he is doing a medical as we speak - if he's not doing it tonight, he'll be doing it tomorrow morning."
Summer Transfer Activity and Squad Plans
There has been some concern among Celtic supporters regarding the club's lack of signings so far, especially compared to rivals Heart of Midlothian, who have made 10 acquisitions, and Rangers, who have added five players.
O'Neill addressed these concerns, stating:
"We've a number of players we're looking at. We have offers in for players at the same time.
Hopefully in the not too distant future, in the next couple of weeks, we will have some really decent players at the football to add to the decent players we already have at the football club.
We are absolutely trying to improve the squad and that will be necessary."
Durán's Career Background and Statistics
Durán began his senior career with Lusitânia in the Portuguese District League before moving to Estrela Amadora. He later returned to Lusitânia to assist the club in securing promotion to Liga 3. Subsequently, he joined Portimonense in Liga 2.
Last season at Qarabag, Durán made 48 appearances, including 33 starts, scoring 15 goals and providing 10 assists.
