Weather Concerns for France vs Iraq World Cup Match

The upcoming World Cup match between France and Iraq, scheduled to be the third game held at Philadelphia Stadium during the 2026 tournament, is facing significant weather-related challenges.

Fans have been advised not to travel to Philadelphia Stadium for Monday's Group I fixture due to "inclement weather in the region." The match is the 42nd of this World Cup and is set to kick off at 17:00 local time (22:00 BST).

Forecasts predict heavy downpours accompanied by thunder and lightning, raising concerns about the match's timely start. This game could become the first of the tournament to experience a delay if it does not commence as scheduled.

Organizers have announced that gate openings will be postponed in response to the adverse weather conditions. A statement from Lincoln Financial Field, the venue hosting the match, posted on X, stated:

"Due to inclement weather in the region, gates opening will be delayed."
"If you are not in the area, please do not travel to Philadelphia Stadium at this time."
"A new gates opening time will be communicated once the weather has passed. If you are near Philadelphia Stadium, please take shelter."

Safety protocols are in place that mandate a 30-minute pause in play if lightning is detected within eight miles of the stadium, during which fans will be escorted to safe areas.

As of three hours before kick-off, heavy rain was already occurring in the area. However, there has been no official announcement regarding any delay to the match's start time at this moment.
