Noah Lyles won the 100m at the US athletics championships in New York City on 18 July 2026, clocking a world-leading 9.79 seconds. The performance equalled his personal best, which he set when winning gold at the 2024 Olympics in Paris, and came after he had already won his first Olympic title at Paris 2024.
The race took place at Icahn Stadium, where Lyles moved ahead of the previous best time in the event this year, 9.82 seconds set by Jamaica's Oblique Seville in June. Lyles said the run proved his status as the fastest man in the world.
