Gymnast Ruby Evans won Wales' first Commonwealth Games gold in Glasgow by taking victory in the floor final. The 19-year-old delivered the final routine of the women's programme and beat England's Abigail Martin to silver, while her team-mate Shantae-Eve Amankwaah took bronze.
Evans had left the arena in tears on Sunday after finishing sixth in the all-round individual competition, following Wales' fourth-place finish in the team event. However, after Welsh identical twins Abigail and Emily Roper won bronze medals within a couple of hours of each other on Monday, Evans added gold to Wales' tally.
The result gave Team Wales its first victory in Scotland and raised its medal total to nine, made up of two silver medals and six bronze. There is also a guaranteed podium place for boxer Connor Williams after he reached the semi-finals.
