Caudery and Hunter Bell Win at Rome Diamond League
World indoor champions Molly Caudery and Georgia Hunter Bell secured victories in the pole vault and 1500m events respectively at the Diamond League meeting held in Rome.
Hunter Bell, who earned her first world title in Torun this March, broke away from the leading group to claim victory with a time of three minutes 58.63 seconds at the Stadio Olimpico.
Two-time world indoor champion Molly Caudery clinched the pole vault title with a successful jump of 4.80 meters.
The meeting featured significant British participation, including Keely Hodgkinson, who also won indoors in Poland. Hodgkinson competed in a rare 400m race, finishing seventh with a time of 51.14 seconds. The 24-year-old was unable to contend strongly in this unfamiliar distance. Fellow British athlete Amber Anning placed fifth, completing the race in 50.19 seconds.
In the women's 200m event, Amy Hunt and Dina Asher-Smith finished fourth and fifth respectively, recording times of 22.52 and 22.76 seconds. The race was won by Olympic champion Julien Alfred, ahead of world title-holder Melissa Jefferson-Wooden.
On the men's side, Olympic champion Noah Lyles surged to victory in the 100m sprint, clocking 9.88 seconds. He finished ahead of Cameroon's Emmanuel Eseme and Botswana's Letsile Tebogo. Great Britain's Jeremiah Azu placed ninth with a time of 10.12 seconds.
The Diamond League series will continue on Sunday in Stockholm, with live coverage available on BBC Two as well as the website and app starting at 16:00 BST.
