A 45-year-old woman has died following a collision with a vehicle in Airdrie on Tuesday evening. The incident occurred on Varnsdorf Way at approximately 18:35 when a blue Audi A3 struck the pedestrian. Despite the rapid response of emergency services, the woman was confirmed dead at the scene. Her identity has not been released.
Police Scotland responded to reports of the crash and launched an investigation into the circumstances. The 23-year-old male driver of the Audi was taken into custody on suspicion of a road traffic offence but was subsequently released pending the outcome of further inquiries.
Sergeant Elaine Scott of Police Scotland expressed sympathy for those affected by the tragedy.
