A man suspected of pushing a woman into the path of a bus in south-west London nine years ago has been discovered dead at his residence.
Nicholas Brandram, aged 44, was the subject of an investigation into the incident known as the "Putney pusher" case. Video footage captured on CCTV showed how narrowly the victim avoided being struck by a 430 bus during what appeared to be an unprovoked assault in 2017.
Brandram, who worked as a banker, was taken into custody in June of this year following suspicion of attempted grievous bodily harm. The Metropolitan Police announced the previous week that he had been released pending further investigation.
His body was found at his home on Tuesday evening. According to the Met, the death is being classified as "unexpected, but is not believed to be suspicious".
The incident that brought Brandram under suspicion occurred when he was out jogging near Putney. The CCTV recording of the alleged attack circulated widely on social media, drawing significant public attention to the case and prompting police inquiries that ultimately led to his arrest months later.
The investigation into the circumstances surrounding the woman's near-fatal encounter with the bus had remained active for years before the suspect was identified and apprehended. His subsequent release under investigation meant the case remained open at the time of his death.
