Met Office Issues Weather Warnings for Scotland
The Met Office has issued warnings for parts of Scotland anticipating fresh snowfall and strong winds.
A yellow weather warning is in effect from midnight on Monday until 15:00 on Wednesday for mainland Scotland and Orkney. Additionally, a separate warning begins at 18:00 on Tuesday for Shetland.
Affected Areas and Previous Disruptions
The warning covers regions including the Highlands, Moray, Aberdeenshire, and Perth and Kinross. These areas have already experienced disruptions due to snow, rain, and flooding since the beginning of the year.
Snowfall Predictions
The Met Office forecasts that some locations could receive up to 2 inches (5 cm) of snow by Wednesday, with higher ground potentially accumulating up to 8 inches (20 cm).
In Shetland, forecasters expect a widespread snow cover of more than 1 inch (3 cm), with accumulations possibly reaching 4 inches (10 cm) on elevated terrain.
Weather Conditions and Impact
"At low levels precipitation will be a mix of rain, sleet and snow which could lead to some small snow accumulations in places.
Strong winds at times will lead to blizzard conditions and drifting of lying snow, especially in the north of the warning area."
