Liverpool Finalize £60m Agreement for Jeremy Jacquet
Liverpool have reached an agreement to sign Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet for a total fee of £60 million. However, the 20-year-old centre-back will not be joining the club during the current transfer window.
The transfer is subject to a medical examination, with the move scheduled to take place in the summer. The agreed fee comprises £55 million upfront plus £5 million in potential add-ons.
Personal terms are expected to be straightforward, as the France Under-21 international is reportedly amenable to the contract terms offered by Liverpool.
Competition and Contract Context
During the winter transfer window, Chelsea engaged in discussions with Jacquet, but it is understood they will not match Liverpool's offer.
Liverpool are actively seeking to strengthen their options at centre-back, particularly with the contract of France international Ibrahima Konate set to expire at the conclusion of this season.
Last summer, Liverpool missed out on signing Marc Guehi, who subsequently joined Manchester City in January.
Player Background and Prospects
Jacquet is a product of the Rennes academy and has featured 18 times for the club this season. His consistent and impressive performances have attracted interest from several top European clubs.
Liverpool view Jacquet as a long-term investment to bolster their defensive line.
