Police have identified a motorcyclist who lost his life following a collision with a van on the A70 near Lanark last week as James Gray, a 57-year-old man remembered by loved ones for his infectious humour and zest for life.
The incident occurred at approximately 15:20 on 24 August when Mr Gray's black Suzuki GSX-R motorcycle struck a silver Renault Master van. He was declared dead at the scene.
In a statement released through Police Scotland, his family expressed their grief at his passing.
"We are heartbroken at the sudden loss of our dad, grandpops, brother, partner, father-in-law, uncle and great friend to many,"they said.
Those closest to him painted a portrait of a man whose personality brightened the lives of everyone around him.
"Jim was always the joker, never let life get him down, sarcastic, witty, and always said what was on his mind."His family recalled how he would sing and dance throughout the house, bringing laughter and joy to his household.
A particularly poignant element of his life was his relationship with his grandson.
"Jim's grandson brought a special kind of happiness into his life, that bond and their love will stay with us forever. He will forever be loved and missed by all."
This tragedy follows a fatal motorcycle collision in South Ayrshire in June, highlighting the ongoing risks faced by riders on Scottish roads.
What is the police investigation status?
Sergeant Stephen MacDonald of Police Scotland stated that officers continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
"Our thoughts remain with James's family at what is an extremely difficult time for them,"he said.
Investigators are actively seeking information from anyone who witnessed the collision.
"Inquiries remain ongoing to establish the full circumstances and we are continuing to appeal to anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward."
Police are also urging motorists who were in the vicinity at the time to review any dash-camera footage they may have recorded.
"If you were driving in the area at the time, please check any dash-cam footage to see if it has captured anything which could assist our investigation."
