Durkan expressed the community's emotional response to the tragedy.

"There is a palpable feeling of anger that a young woman has had her life so cruelly taken from her and that two children have had their mother robbed from them so brutally and so senselessly."

Speaking on Good Morning Ulster, Durkan described the family's grief.

"Amy's family are completely devastated," he said. "This is such a massive loss. She was very much loved and very well liked."

Her employer, NWCare, expressed their sorrow over her unexpected passing.

"We were devastated to learn about the unexpected passing of Amy. She was the essence of humanity, kind, compassionate and beautiful," the statement said.

Sinn Féin MLA Ciara Ferguson commented on the impact of the incident across the city.

"There is complete shock across the city after the suspected murder. A young woman's life was taken in the latest act of violence against women and girls and I appeal to anyone with information to bring it forward to the PSNI," Ferguson said.

DUP councillor Julie Middleton also spoke about the community's reaction.

"The community was absolutely devastated, shocked, horrified and there is a real feeling of anger at this terrible loss of life, a life stolen violently."
