An 11-year-old girl has died after being found in the water at a beauty spot in Midlothian. Emergency crews were called to Gore Glen Woodland Park near Gorebridge on Thursday after concerns were raised for a young girl at about 12:40.
The girl's body was found in the park's Gore Water, near Shank Bridge, at about 16:25. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
A force spokesperson said:
Her death is being treated as unexplained and inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances.
Police said her family were aware.

A major search operation was launched after concerns were raised for the girl at Gore Glen Woodland Park. The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service said it sent two appliances to the incident shortly before 16:30 to support emergency services partners.
The Scottish Ambulance Service said it sent two ambulances, a special operations team and a critical care paramedic to the scene.

Gore Glen was the site of Scotland's first industrial-scale gunpowder mill, which was established in 1794. For nearly 70 years, the Gore Water was used to power 10 waterwheels.
The woodland park is now popular with walkers and has views of the nearby Pentland Hills.
