Eastwood Park in Giffnock, on Glasgow's outskirts, has been evacuated and closed following a gas leak from a ruptured main.
Officers from Police Scotland responded to reports of the burst gas main at the park at approximately 16:00. The force cordoned off the area to prevent public access to the affected zone.
East Renfrewshire Council confirmed that all facilities within the park grounds have been closed as a precaution. This closure means all scheduled activities at the leisure centre and sports pitches have been cancelled until further notice.
Scottish Gas Networks (SGN), the utility responsible for gas infrastructure in the region, has taken control of the repair operation. Residents and visitors have been advised to stay away from the area while emergency work is underway.
What should people do?
Members of the public should avoid Eastwood Park entirely until authorities confirm the situation has been resolved and the area is safe to re-enter. Further updates on the reopening timeline are expected from the council and emergency services.
