Former RAF Airman Sentenced for Rapes and Abuse

A former RAF airman has been sentenced to 11 years in prison following convictions for a series of rapes and abusive acts against two women.

Kenny Dalgleish, aged 38, who was stationed at RAF Lossiemouth in Moray, engaged in a prolonged campaign of bullying and violent behaviour. This included controlling one victim's access to food and sanitary products.

Dalgleish was convicted on 11 charges at the High Court in Glasgow, with offences spanning from 2006 to 2023.

During sentencing, Judge Lord Harrower remarked on Dalgleish's dual nature, stating:

"There were two sides to your character, and the dark side of which is only seen by those closest to you."

Details of Abuse and Convictions

The court heard that for nearly four years, starting in Dundee, Dalgleish subjected one woman to verbal and physical abuse. This included restricting her breathing and issuing threats to kill her.

Between April 2007 and February 2010, he raped this victim on multiple occasions.

Dalgleish was also found guilty of six charges relating to a second woman between 2015 and 2023. These charges included raping and injuring her at a flat in Glasgow.

His assaults involved raping her while she was asleep or feigning sleep, including during her pregnancy. Additionally, he was convicted of domestic abuse against this woman at hospitals in Aberdeen and Elgin.

Advocate Depute Alex Prentice stated that both victims sought lifelong non-harassment orders due to expressing extreme anxiety for their well-being.

Sentencing and Remarks

Lord Harrower imposed an extended sentence on Dalgleish, which includes a three-year period of supervision following his release.

"You were involved in the physical, emotional and sexual abuse carried out over many years against two women.
This included referring to them with evil derogatory names which undermined their confidence and self-esteem.
Your culpability is high - you repeatedly raped and carried out sexual assaults against both women over lengthy periods against the background of violence and intimidation. Some of the violence would have been degrading and humiliating."

John Brannigan, representing Dalgleish, stated that his client continues to maintain his innocence.

The RAF confirmed that Dalgleish has since been discharged from service.

Dalgleish has been placed on the sex offenders register and is subject to non-harassment orders for an indefinite period.
