Fare Increases Announced for Edinburgh and Lothians Bus and Tram Services

Passengers using bus and tram services in Edinburgh and the Lothians will experience fare increases starting later this month.

Lothian Buses and Edinburgh Trams have declared that adult single fares will rise from £2.20 to £2.40, while child single tickets will increase from £1.10 to £1.20. Additionally, day tickets will see a 50p increase, bringing the price to £6.

However, NightBus single fares covering zones A and B, as well as Airlink Airport bus single and return fares, will remain unchanged.

The fare adjustments will take effect from Sunday, 22 February.

Price increases will also apply to Lothian Country and East Coast Buses services.

Service Changes and Improvements

The ongoing bus service review includes modifications to routes in west Edinburgh and Midlothian. These changes aim to enhance connectivity to new housing developments and better serve local communities.

Statement from Lothian and Edinburgh Trams Chief Executive

Sarah Boyd, chief executive of Lothian and Edinburgh Trams, emphasized that the season ticket Ridacard continues to provide the most economical option for travel throughout the city.

"Since our last fares review, we have experienced significant cost increases across all areas of our businesses," she said.
"Despite taking steps to mitigate these pressures and absorb some of the impact, rising costs continue to affect our operations.
With all fare revenue going directly back into the running of a comprehensive public transport network, our decision to increase fares at this time will allow us to continue to prioritise investment in our fleet, our premises, our people and our customer offering."

Boyd added that the fare increase is intended to safeguard the sustainability of services over the long term.
