Official Visit Commences
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney is scheduled to commence an official two-day visit to the Republic of Ireland. He and his wife, Diana Fox Carney, are expected to arrive at Dublin Airport at approximately 10:00 local time, where they will meet with Taoiseach Micheál Martin.
This visit marks the first bilateral trip to Ireland by a Canadian prime minister since Justin Trudeau's visit in 2017.

Security and Traffic Arrangements
Gardaí, the Irish police, have indicated that the impact on traffic will be "localised and minimal," although temporary rolling road closures will be implemented to facilitate events and security escorts throughout Saturday.
Meetings and Events
On Saturday, the meeting between Carney and Martin will take place in Government Buildings. Later that evening, Carney will be hosted at a dinner held in Dublin Castle. During these engagements, the two leaders are expected to agree on a framework for a strategic and economic partnership.
Additionally, Carney is anticipated to visit Trinity College and deliver a speech during his stay.
Statements from Taoiseach Micheál Martin
"It would be an excellent occasion to celebrate and strengthen the bilateral relationship between Ireland and Canada."
"With such strong Irish heritage, it will also be an opportunity for Prime Minister Carney to celebrate and explore his Irish heritage, and I know Mayo is looking forward to welcoming him home."
Visit to County Mayo
On Sunday, Carney, who has Irish ancestry, will travel to County Mayo in the west of Ireland to visit the home of his paternal grandparents in Aghagower. His grandparents emigrated from the village to Canada over 100 years ago.
During his visit to Aghagower, Carney will attend mass at the parish church and visit the nearby cemetery, where several of his ancestors are interred. It is also noted that Carney has a third grandparent from County Cavan.
Meeting with Irish President
Later on Sunday, Carney will meet with Irish President Catherine Connolly in Westport.
Bilateral Cooperation Framework
The Irish government has announced that the Taoiseach and Canadian Prime Minister will unveil a new bilateral cooperation framework aimed at "strengthening the partnership between the two countries across key areas including trade and investment, life sciences, research and innovation, and security and defence."
Trade and Economic Relations
According to the Irish government, trade and economic ties between Ireland and Canada have expanded significantly in recent years. Bilateral trade in goods and services has increased from €3.2 billion (£2.76 billion) in 2016 to over €12 billion (£10.35 billion) in 2024.
