British rapper Yung Filly will undergo a retrial on three rape charges in Australia after a jury delivered a split decision, acquitting him of some sexual assault offences while failing to reach a consensus on others.
The content creator, whose real name is Andres Felipe Valencia Barrientos, was prosecuted following allegations that he repeatedly raped and assaulted a fan at a nightclub in Perth during 2024.
Barrientos maintained his innocence against all 10 charges brought against him. In the previous month, jurors returned not guilty verdicts on three counts of sexual penetration without consent. He was also cleared of one assault charge and one count of strangulation. However, the court found him guilty on two counts of assault occasioning bodily harm, and sentencing on those convictions will occur following the upcoming retrial.
According to testimony heard in the West Australian court, the 30-year-old social media personality engaged in consensual sexual activity with a 20-year-old fan in his hotel room. The complainant subsequently alleged that his behaviour became violent and that he disregarded her requests to cease the activity.
The case follows earlier proceedings in which Yung Filly was found not guilty of rape, with the jury's inability to agree on the remaining charges necessitating the retrial process.
What happens next?
Barrientos is scheduled to appear in court on 27 August for a hearing regarding an application to modify the conditions of his bail. The specific date for the retrial has not yet been announced by the court.
