Fraudulent Nursing Qualifications Lead to Jail and Repayment Order

A woman sentenced to five years in prison for falsifying her qualifications to secure a senior nursing position has been mandated to repay less than £300 of the money she fraudulently earned.

Tanya Nasir, 47, was in charge of a unit caring for premature infants at Bridgend's Princess of Wales Hospital for five months before her deception was uncovered.

The 47-year-old, originally from Rickmansworth, Hertfordshire, also held a position at Hillingdon Hospital in west London.

During a hearing at Cardiff Crown Court on Thursday, it was revealed that Nasir, who was released in January, is unable to repay more than the amount she currently has as she is on benefits and nearly penniless.

The court determined that Nasir had fraudulently earned £51,397.58 by claiming to be a band seven nurse, despite only being qualified for a band five role.

However, she is required to pay only £278.13, which is the total amount in her bank account.

This sum will be divided between Hillingdon NHS Trust, which will receive £13.91, and Cwm Taf Morgannwg University Health Board, which will be allocated £264.22.

She must make this payment by 6 August. Failure to do so will result in a one-month prison sentence.

The court was informed that fraud investigators will continue to monitor Nasir and pursue repayment if she acquires any funds in the future.
