Proposal to Install Emergency Equipment at Dumfries Nationwide Branch

A proposal has been submitted to install life-saving equipment at a Nationwide building society branch located in the south of Scotland.

This initiative is part of Nationwide's broader plan to equip all its UK sites with external defibrillators and bleed kits.

The recent application specifically targets the installation of this equipment at the Dumfries branch, situated near the town centre.

Commitment to Community Wellbeing

The company emphasized its dedication to community health by aiming to provide people with "rapid, 24/7 access to vital emergency equipment whenever it is needed."

"The aim is to deliver a clear, simple, and potentially life-saving message,"

the application stated.

"Where there is a Nationwide branch, there is always access to a defibrillator and bleed kit in an emergency."

Location and Consent

The Dumfries site is adjacent to the Burns Statue in the historic town centre.

Nationwide is seeking listed building consent to proceed with the installation.

Balancing Benefits and Visual Impact

The company expressed confidence that the advantages of having the emergency equipment outweigh any potential negative visual effects.

"The cabinets need to be in a prominent location where they can easily be seen and, at a height where they can be reached in case they are needed in an emergency,"

the application explained.

"We have proposed that the cabinets are fixed in locations that, whilst prominent, have limited impact on the appearance of the conservation area.
The cabinets can be removed if they become redundant.
The benefits of installing these cabinets are potentially life-saving so we consider that this outweighs any harm to the appearance of the conservation area."
