The promoter behind the Oasis 2025 reunion tour has secured a licence to host events at Knebworth, just days before the 30th anniversary of the band's concerts there. North Hertfordshire Council granted SJM Concerts a premises licence for Knebworth House, and it came into effect on Saturday and will remain in place indefinitely.
Oasis last played Knebworth in August 1996, when more than 4% of the UK population applied for tickets to see the band perform at the Hertfordshire venue on 10 and 11 August 1996.
SJM Concerts has also worked on shows with artists including Take That and The Prodigy, as well as non-musical acts such as comedian Peter Kay. Both SJM Concerts and Knebworth House have been asked what events are planned for the site.
The licence allows events for up to 125,000 people, with live music and dance performances permitted until 03:00.
Rumours of Oasis playing in Knebworth have emerged every year since they announced their reunion.
While the nature of the events has not been confirmed, the licence was granted amid growing speculation that the band has planned a return to Knebworth. Last month, The Sun reported that Oasis would play six nights, external at the venue over a three-week period in September 2027.
Have Oasis Knebworth plans been rumoured before?
Yes. It is not the first time a return to Knebworth has been rumoured.
In 2025, Baroness Sharon Taylor of Stevenage told the House of Lords the band would play five nights there. She later told the BBC she had been
"speaking hypothetically".
Speculation had also appeared in 2024, when tabloids suggested Oasis were planning a Knebworth residency after announcing their comeback tour. The band denied this on X, external, writing:
"Contrary to reports in some UK tabloid media today, Oasis will not be playing Knebworth Park in the future."
How did the comeback tour tickets go on sale?
Tickets for Oasis's comeback tour went on sale in 2024, sold out immediately, but some fans criticised the sales process. Prices were affected by
"dynamic pricing", where prices were increased by more than £200 to reflect growing demand.
In 2024, the owner of Knebworth House, Henry Lytton Cobbold, said he wanted the band to return to the venue to perform a 30th anniversary show.
A documentary following the band's 2025 reunion tour, featuring their first interviews together since before they split in 2009, will be released in September.
This weekend also marks the 40th anniversary of Freddie Mercury's final performance with Queen, which took place at the venue. Other artists to have performed at Knebworth include Robbie Williams, Sir Paul McCartney and Metallica.
