Glasgow and Aberdeen Airports Increase Drop-Off Fees
Glasgow and Aberdeen airports have announced an increase in the fees charged to drivers dropping off passengers. Effective from Tuesday, the drop-off charge at Glasgow Airport will rise by £1, reaching £7 for a 15-minute stay. Similarly, Aberdeen Airport will increase its fee from £5.50 to £7.
Both airports are operated by AGS Airports, which attributed the fee hikes to rising operational costs. Despite the increase, AGS Airports emphasized that free alternatives are available at both locations for passengers and drivers.
A spokesperson from AGS Airports acknowledged that the decision might be unpopular but highlighted that the additional revenue would help maintain the airports' competitiveness and support the attraction of new services and destinations.
"It is important to keep in mind that there is always a free alternative where customers can park for up to one hour.
These are located in our long stay car parks, and passengers can use a free, on-demand shuttle service to and from the terminal."
The spokesperson further explained that the pick-up and drop-off areas are intended for short visits lasting up to 15 minutes only.
"We would encourage anyone who thinks they may be longer to use the free alternative or our short-stay car park. Valid Blue Badge holders continue to receive 30 minutes free in our short-stay car park."
