Scottish Athletes in Team GB for Winter Olympics
Seventeen Scottish athletes, competing across four sports, are included in Team GB's 53-member delegation for this month's Winter Olympics in Italy.
Some athletes arrive as medal contenders, others aspire to reach the podium, while a few will define success differently.
The competition begins on Wednesday when the mixed curling team plays their opening match against Norway in Cortina at 18:05 GMT, broadcast live on the website, app, and BBC .
This event precedes the official Games start by two days. As the 25th Winter Olympics approach, here are the Scottish athletes to watch.
Curling Teams
Men's team: Bruce Mouat, Grant Hardie, Bobby Lammie, Hammy McMillan, Kyle Waddell (alternate)
Women's team: Rebecca Morrison, Sophie Jackson, Jennifer Dodds, Sophie Sinclair, Fay Henderson (alternate)
At the 2022 Beijing Winter Olympics, curling was the sole sport in which Britain earned medals. Eve Muirhead's rink secured the women's gold, while Bruce Mouat's men's team won silver.
Muirhead has retired from playing and now serves as the overall GB team’s chef de mission. However, her former teammate Jennifer Dodds remains active.
"Jen and the kids" is how the women's rink this time label themselves and, while their inexperience means they are not among the favourites, they could find themselves in contention for a podium place if things go their way.
Edinburgh natives Dodds and Mouat are expected to perform strongly in the mixed doubles, having narrowly missed bronze last time.
Mouat's men's rink is considered the team to beat, with expectations high that anything less than gold would be disappointing.
Figure Skating
Irvine-born figure skater Andrew Gibson and partner Lilah Fear have raised hopes of ending Team GB's 30-year Olympic figure skating medal drought, having earned medals at four consecutive European Championships.
At last month's European Championships, the pair, nicknamed the 'Disco Brits,' won bronze performing a Scottish-themed routine featuring tartan costumes.
Fellow Scot Natasha Vaipan-Law and partner Luke Digby missed out on a European medal after Vaipan-Law fell during a throw in the free skate. The Dundee-based skater, who is the partner of Dundee United captain Ross Graham, aims to improve on that result in Milan.
Freestyle Skiing
Kirsty Muir: Slopestyle & Big Air
Chris McCormick: Slopestyle & Big Air
Kirsty Muir, from Aberdeenshire, was just 17 when she placed fifth in the Big Air event at Beijing and enters her second Games in strong form. She recently won freeski slopestyle gold at the X Games and took silver in the big air event.
Glasgow's Chris McCormick will make his Winter Olympics debut after narrowly missing selection for Beijing. His multiple top-20 World Cup finishes last year in both events secured his qualification this time.
Cross-Country Skiing
Andrew Musgrave, 35, will compete in his fifth Winter Games in Italy, likely his final opportunity to win an Olympic medal. Raised in Aberdeenshire but residing in Norway for 17 years, Musgrave achieved Team GB's best result in the sport with a seventh-place finish in the skiathlon in 2018.
He will be joined by France-born Andrew Clugnet and Canada-native Andrew Pryce. Both athletes qualify for Team GB through Snowsport Scotland membership. Pryce has family ties to Aberdeen, and Clugnet spent part of his junior career in Scotland.
