Herbie Williams: Swansea and Wales Football Icon
Swansea City legend and former Wales international Herbie Williams has passed away at the age of 85.
Williams, a Swansea native, joined the club as a 15-year-old in 1955 and went on to play for Swansea City from 1958 until 1975.
During his tenure, he made 513 league appearances, ranking third highest in the club's history. Overall, Williams played 608 matches for Swansea and scored 129 goals.
The Championship club expressed their condolences, stating they were "deeply saddened" by the loss of "one of the club's most loyal servants."
"A gracious, humble man, with a deep love and affection for Swansea - city and club - Herbie will be greatly missed by all who knew him," the club added.
Career Highlights and Legacy
Williams primarily played as an inside forward and was a key member of the Swansea squad that reached the FA Cup semi-finals during the 1963-64 season while competing in the old Second Division.
Notably, Swansea defeated Liverpool at Anfield on their way to the semi-finals, where they were ultimately defeated by Preston North End at Villa Park.

Towards the end of his career, Williams spent a brief period living in Australia before returning to his hometown of Swansea.
