Newcastle United Responds to Mascot Incident at Anfield
Newcastle United is set to take action following an incident in which a young club mascot was left alone on the pitch prior to their 4-1 defeat against Liverpool on Saturday.
The girl, who served as Newcastle's sole mascot, accompanied the players as they entered the field and lined up alongside the visiting team during the customary handshake with Arne Slot's Liverpool side.
However, video footage shared by TikTok user @doubleh8596 shows the mascot being left unattended as the Newcastle players quickly moved to the touchline to exchange their track jackets before the match began.
A Liverpool staff member nearby, while filming the hosts warming up, noticed the mascot's situation and directed her toward the dugout. Despite this, she remained near the centre circle, observing as the Liverpool mascots engaged in a ball-passing activity with captain Virgil van Dijk at the opposite end of the field.
The clip ends with the mascot looking around, leaving her subsequent actions unclear. Later television footage reveals her running off the pitch alongside the Liverpool mascots.
Newcastle United Supporters Trust Raises Concern
The Newcastle United Supporters Trust (NUST) has brought the video to the club's attention.
"They are aware and it is being addressed and action being taken," a spokesperson stated on X.
Team News
In related team news, Newcastle faced Liverpool without their regular captain Bruno Guimaraes. He was not included in the squad as a precautionary measure after suffering an ankle injury during their Champions League victory against PSV Eindhoven last month.
