Mateta's AC Milan Transfer in Doubt Due to Medical Issues
Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta's potential transfer to AC Milan is currently uncertain due to complications arising from his medical examination, according to multiple sources from .
The French forward, aged 28, has been managing a knee problem. He underwent an initial medical assessment on Sunday, followed by further tests on Monday. These medical concerns have led the Italian club to consider withdrawing from the proposed £30 million transfer deal. Despite Mateta's desire to leave Selhurst Park, the move is now in jeopardy.
Palace's Transfer Strategy and Related Deals
Crystal Palace had initially been reluctant to allow Mateta to depart without securing a replacement. However, they agreed to a £48 million deal to acquire Wolves forward Jorgen Strand Larsen. The club also permitted Mateta to undergo a preliminary medical in London before traveling to Milan for further assessments.
Nottingham Forest have also expressed interest in Mateta, submitting a £35 million bid last weekend, which Palace rejected. Despite the uncertainty surrounding Mateta's transfer, Palace are still anticipated to finalize the signing of Larsen.
Manager's Comments on Striker Situation
Following Palace's 1-1 draw against Nottingham Forest on Sunday, manager Oliver Glasner addressed the striker situation:
"I expect either Mateta or someone else here as a striker.
Everybody is really working very hard, but it is so close to the end of the window, so it makes it more difficult. I always try to be positive, so I hope.
Worst case, we sell Mateta and no-one comes in, then it's not a good window for Palace."
Wolves' Replacement Plans for Strand Larsen
Meanwhile, Wolves are actively seeking to replace Jorgen Strand Larsen and are nearing an agreement to sign Southampton striker Adam Armstrong for an initial fee of £7 million. There is increasing confidence that this deal will be completed soon. Wolves, currently at the bottom of the Premier League, face the threat of relegation to the Championship.
Armstrong, 28 years old, has scored 11 goals for Southampton in the Championship this season and has a total of 43 goals for the club since his transfer from Blackburn Rovers in 2021.
Palace's Interest in Everton's Dwight McNeil
In addition to these developments, Crystal Palace have shown late interest in Everton winger Dwight McNeil. McNeil is currently out of favor at Everton's Hill Dickinson Stadium, and Palace are working on a potential deal to sign the 26-year-old forward.
McNeil has recorded one assist in 14 Premier League appearances this season. Everton value him at approximately £20 million.
