Jacquet Injured While Playing for Rennes

Jeremy Jacquet, the Liverpool signing, is expected to be sidelined due to a shoulder injury sustained during a match for Rennes.

The 20-year-old French defender, who agreed to a £60 million transfer to Liverpool last week, will join the club at the conclusion of the current season.

Jacquet fell awkwardly in the second half of Rennes' 3-1 Ligue 1 loss to Lens on Saturday. During the same match, Rennes defender Abdelhamid Ait Boudlal also sustained a muscular injury.

"It's definitely quite serious for both of them," said Rennes manager Habib Beye.

Transfer Background and Interest from Other Clubs

Liverpool secured Jacquet's signing during the January transfer window after a previous attempt to sign Crystal Palace's England defender Marc Guehi fell through last summer.

Chelsea had also expressed interest in Jacquet, who has earned five caps for France's Under-21 national team.

Liverpool manager Arne Slot described Jacquet as a "very big talent."
