Geiger Joins Aberdeen on Loan

Aberdeen have secured the services of Dennis Geiger on a loan deal, with the German midfielder expressing enthusiasm for "the chance for a restart, a new beginning" after a period of inactivity at Hoffenheim this season.

The Scottish Premiership club holds an option to make the 27-year-old's transfer permanent during the upcoming summer window.

Background and Career

Geiger, who has represented Germany at the Under-21 level, has not featured in any matches this season following his public criticism of Hoffenheim's recruitment policies last season.

His breakthrough at Hoffenheim coincided with the tenure of Aberdeen's sporting director, Lutz Pfannenstiel, who served as head director of international relations and scouting at the German club.

Player's Perspective

"I know Lutz well from our time at Hoffenheim. He made it clear how much Aberdeen wanted to have me here, so the decision was easy for me," Geiger told the Dons' official website.

Having amassed nearly 150 appearances for Hoffenheim's first team, Geiger was once regarded as a potential future German international.

"It's the chance for a restart, a new beginning," he added. "I want to push myself out of my comfort zone and take on this new challenge."

When asked about the style of play Aberdeen supporters can expect, Geiger described his approach:

"I like to be aggressive, but I believe in my technical ability. I've got a strong mentality. I want to win in everything I do."

Sporting Director's Comments

Pfannenstiel expressed satisfaction with the acquisition, marking it as Aberdeen's sixth signing in the January transfer window.

"Dennis will bring real energy and tenacity to the squad," he said.
"I've known him since his early years at Hoffenheim, so I know what type of character he is.
He has played at the highest level so brings a real pedigree and attributes, which I believe can help improve us."

Additional Signings

Aberdeen have also strengthened their midfield with the additions of Afeez Aremu from Kaiserslautern and Lyall Cameron on loan from Rangers.

In other positions, goalkeeper Per Kristian Bratveit has been signed from Stromsgodset, forward Toyosi Olusanya is on loan from Houston Dynamo, and defender Liam Morrison has joined from Queens Park Rangers.
